How we choose what we carry

A short shelf is a promise that everything on it has been looked at closely. Here is how products are chosen, and what we will and won't say about them.

Chosen by a nurse practitioner

Every product is selected by Jennifer Heavin, MS, RN, APRN, NP-BC. Before anything joins the shelf, she reviews its full label: the ingredients and their forms, the amounts, the directions and the warnings. If it isn't something she would reach for herself, we don't carry it.

Clear, purposeful formulas

We look for well-understood ingredients in sensible amounts, with nothing added for show: B vitamins in active forms such as methylfolate, probiotic strains named on the label, collagen and whey from named sources, and no artificial colors.

The whole label, in plain view

Every product page shows the complete Supplement Facts panel and other ingredients, copied from the label. They are there to be read, so bring them to your provider.

Honest about testing

We don't run our own laboratory. When a maker provides lab results for a batch, such as a certificate of analysis, we link them on the product page under "Lab results for this batch." When there are no results to share, we don't imply testing we can't show you.

Careful words

Supplement statements describe what a product is made to support, and each one carries an asterisk and the FDA statement the law requires. You won't find miracle promises here, or star ratings and reviews we can't verify.

Your provider comes first

Pregnancy, nursing and medications all change what is right for you. We will always suggest checking with your own provider, especially before starting a supplement.
